Is not a good deal, check before buy August 28, 2010 Juan Burbano (colombia) Check before you buy.
I think that i have a god deal, but when i turn on (first time) i discovered that the laptop has a damaged pixel in the middle of the screen.
If become this way new, you can imagine when the time pass.
i live in other country and is nothink that i can do to return this product.
I strongly recomended that you purchase a Thosiba products they are more high quality. I have 3 of them for a few years and they are still perfect.
Overrated notebook July 31, 2010 Scott A. Prost-domasky (Florissant, MO USA) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am giving this computer 1 star because it's a piece of junk. I've wasted 2 days trying to do 2 basic things--Windows 7 updates and activating the 60 license to Office 2007--can't even find a fix by Googling the correct phrases (something about 'can't find branding.xml'). Gateway's online support seems unreachable, I don't have much hope when even the automatic "find serial number" option doesn't work on their Support website.
The right/left mouse button, which is really just a bar on a pivot (bet it doesn't survive 3 years of clicking!), is not only difficult to get the hang of, it's a horrible design, and just symptomatic of another terrible Gateway computer. I hate the flat keyboard, which is far inferior to the classical raised keys, primarily because of all the either missed or wrong key strokes--a two minute typing job takes double the time because of the poor keyboard design.
Excellent buy July 9, 2010 sara1214 I got pretty lucky. After searching for a few months for a new laptop, I found this one that has been mislabeled. It works great, and I can't find anything to complain about. Haven't seen a computer like it (although I'm not an expert). I did spend a lot of time doing research before I bought it, and I'm very happy with the results. No over-heating, good battery life, fast, great image, and I love windows 7.
It does not support linux well and BIOS is suck June 25, 2010 Y. Zhang (VT USA) 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this notebook very happily as I paid only for a i3 price not i5. However, after I installed the linux (Fedora 13 64 bit), I found that its screen flickers and screen brightness is not adjustable.
People could argue that this is linux problem. But, I think I need to warn linux player to pay attention on this as this product uses chip set and integrated intel video card, which is not not well supported in Linux world.
Also, under Windows 7 64 bit, it shows installed RAM is 4GB, but only 3.68GB is usable! I'm reasonably sure the GMA HD built into the nv5927u doesn't have its own memory. I think it's just more of the usual computer company bs marketing jargon. If you check the Gateway specs page it says; "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD with 128MB of dedicated system memory". Which is a bit contradictory, no? It's either dedicated OR system memory.
This notebook's BIOS is suck. there is no chance to upgrade it. there is no technical support for this either.
In addition, this notebook does not have internal bluetooth support.
excellent value June 16, 2010 Lucky (Hopkins, MN, US) this computer had all the features I was looking for and added bonus was the i5.
